1. Animals need food to continue living.

2. Animals need food to grow, to stay healthy and to produce energy.

3. Animals cannot make their own food.

4. Animals can be grouped into three types according to the food they eat. They are herbivores, carnivores and omnivores.

Herbivores  are animals that feed on plants only.                                             

Examples are cows, elephants and snails.

Carnivores  are animals that feed on other animals’ meat.                          

Examples are tigers, eagles and frogs.

Omnivores  are animals that feed on both plants as well as animals’ meat. 

Examples are bears, birds and chickens.
